In connection with initial employment with the City and as a condition of continuing employment, investigative background inquiries may be made, including previous employers, schools, consumer credit, criminal convictions, motor vehicle, and other reports.  These reports will include information as to the character, work habits, performance, education, compensation, and experience of individuals considered for employment with the City, along with reasons for termination of employment from previous employers.  The City may also be requesting information from various federal, state, and other agencies which maintain records concerning past activities relating to driving, credit, criminal, civil, and other experiences as well as claims involvement in the files of insurance companies.  Any and all background checks conducted by the City of Maryville are completed with the consent and authorization of the parties involved.  

When an applicant is selected for employment with the City, they will receive a verbal offer of employment from the hiring supervisor, followed by a written offer of employment from the hiring supervisor or Human Resources Manger.  All offers are contingent upon the applicant successfully passing a pre-employment drug screen and a physical capacity profile examination, as well as providing written verification concerning the applicant's eligibility to work in the United States. Eligibility for employment is verified through E-Verify as required by State Law.
