If your project is not listed, please contact Code Enforcement prior to construction.  This lists the most common projects.  A permit is required if a structural change is made to a building.  Replacement doors and windows not needing structural change to the building do not require a permit.  Basement work replacing a few blocks would be considered maintenance, but if the entire wall is replaced a permit is required.  Maintenance to an existing fence would not need a permit, but replacing a fence or new fence construction would require a permit.  A deck less than 30” in height including the handrail or guardrail does not need a permit.  Maintenance to an existing deck does not need a permit, but replacing the deck or installing a new deck would require a permit.
